What Is E-Glass Woven Roving Fabric? Uses, GSM and FRP Applications

E-glass woven roving fabric is one of the most commonly used reinforcement materials in the FRP industry.

It is made by weaving continuous glass rovings in two directions:

  • Warp – along the fabric length

  • Weft – across the fabric width

This 0°/90° construction gives the fabric strength in both directions and makes it suitable for many FRP and composite applications.

At Brahma Technical Textiles, we focus on supplying practical glass-fibre reinforcement solutions for FRP fabricators, composite manufacturers and industrial buyers.

Why Is Woven Roving Used in FRP?

Woven roving is selected when a laminate needs better strength, thickness and structural stability.

Compared with chopped strand mat, woven roving has continuous glass fibres. This helps the laminate carry load more effectively and build thickness with fewer layers.

It is commonly used with:

  • Unsaturated polyester resin

  • Vinyl ester resin

  • Epoxy resin

The right resin, glass content and fabrication process are equally important for final laminate performance.

What Should You Check Before Buying?

Before selecting woven roving, confirm these points with your supplier:

  • Fabric GSM

  • Fabric width

  • E-glass or ECR-glass requirement

  • Roving tex in warp and weft

  • Roll weight and roll length

  • Resin system being used

  • Final FRP application

  • Regular monthly consumption

A fabric may have the same GSM as another product but still perform differently because of its weave construction, roving quality, warp tension, weft spacing and roll build.

Why Fabric Quality Matters

A good woven roving fabric should have:

  • Consistent GSM

  • Uniform warp and weft spacing

  • Stable edges

  • Proper winding tension

  • Clean roll build

  • Good resin wet-out

  • Reliable handling during lamination

Poor roll winding, uneven construction or missing ends can create wastage and quality issues during FRP production.
